Note: It is illegal in California to place
most consumer electronics, such as computers and televisions, as
well as fluorescent bulbs and batteries in the trash.
Nonfunctioning CRTs are hazardous waste and cannot be disposed of in
municipal landfills.
To avoid
penalties (criminal and civil) for improper disposal, caution should be taken
that computer recycling is done through a legitimate identified electronics
waste recycler according to all relevant
regulations. To reduce waste and to protect the environment from
hazardous materials, waste electrical equipment must be disposed of properly.
Electrical equipment should not be mixed in with general trash or disposed of in
a landfill.
